The market is saturated with skincare products, so if I’m going to add to it, it’s got to be pretty special and worth my time and effort. Hyangii is the best that I could produce for myself and my loved ones and there’s nothing like it on the market.
Why aren’t there products like this on the market? It’s just not economical to produce and store.
Ingredients are minimally processed. Unrefined, botanical ingredients are not shelf-stable for long periods of time (they’re stable for months, not years), which is why ingredients are ordered and products are formulated each season and shipped out immediately, with no warehousing or collecting dust in retail stores.
Both plant-based and synthetically-derived active ingredients are used. It causes a marketing conundrum (it’s not “all-natural”, or “chemical-free”)—but why not have the best of both worlds?
Hyangii products contain botanical waters, such as aloe juice and hydrosols (also less shelf-stable), not plain, distilled water, or fancy aqua.
Brands that carry budget-friendly products can price them as such because they are mass-produced using 1-2 actives per product in a basic shelf-stable base usually of water, ultra-refined oil, mineral oil, or silicones. The end-user is required to plan and coordinate multiple products into a routine making sure not to combine incompatible ingredients with each other. In contrast, Hyangii uses several actives (e.g. M-series contain 12-15 actives each!) in one product in a base of minimally processed, nourishing plant oils and butters. The ingredients used in Hyangii’s systems work synergistically with each other. There is no need to wait a few minutes between layering products; Hyangii products are most efficiently absorbed into the skin when layered one immediately after the other.
No mineral oils/petrolatum, caprylic/capric trigylcerides or silicones: dimethicone, cyclomethicone, cyclohexasiloxane, cetearyl methicone, cyclopentasiloxane. These ingredients are not bad; they are shelf-stable and provide occulsion to the skin barrier. Botanical ingredients oils and butter also provide a protective barrier, but also have the added benefit of phytonutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins to provide extra nourishment to the skin. If Hyangii were to mass produce, we would also have to take the route of using more more economical, shelf-stable ingredients, too, which is why there is no plan to scale these products.
You may have noticed lack of marketing or the mention of “star ingredients”. That’s because there is no marketing team and I really want the focus of these products to be the amazing ingredients. Have a look at the ingredient deck. If you know, you know.
While well-formulated skincare products are my special interest, luxury skin care is last on my priority list of what I need to be healthy. Remember, there are many ways you can improve your skin without spending money on cosmetics: diet, exercise, stress-reduction and quality sleep. Basic broad-spectrum sunscreen, gentle cleanser and fragrance- and dye-free moisturizers from the drug store will work as well.
Thank you for your support of my inefficient, hand-made labour of love!
Yours in ingredient-focussed skincare,
Cee
