I know. The products have no personality. No names, no logo, and the descriptions do nothing to rouse consumer desire. The packaging is brown and boring. You might also notice that I also don’t use words like: anti-aging, firming, wrinkle-reducing, pore-refining.
Because skin is affected by your genes and medical conditions, the food you eat and drink, what you breathe, your exposure to the elements, on how much exercise and you sleep you get, and how stressed you are, I don’t think of before and after pictures of other people will really be useful. I know from trying to take objective photos without a controlled studio, that light, exposure, position and filters have a WAAAAAAY bigger effect on how skin looks in photos than any skincare product possibly could. There are also no testimonials or reviews to convince you to buy anything.
I have background in medical research. I used to design and conduct medical experiments on human subjects. In order for patients to participate, I had to obtain their INFORMED consent. This alone involved an entire documented process. I was ethically and legally required to present information, risks and benefits in an unbiased way, WITHOUT coercion or use of incentives or rewards to “sell” the study. My goal then, as it is now, is to ensure that participants/consumers are fully informed.
The last thing I want to do is follow the traditions of the beauty industry by preying on peoples’ insecurities and fear of aging. I see aging as a blessing. I’ll take every extra day given to me on this planet as a gift, every grey hair as a badge of honour for the extra wisdom I have gained, every wrinkle around my eyes as a reminder of all the laughs I’ve shared with people I’ve loved. All I aim to do with my skincare is to contribute to a glow that can only be achieved through good health and peace of mind in two main ways:
Nourish my skin from the outside the way I nourish my body with food.
Use the ritual of selfcare to unwind and cue my body for a good night’s sleep. I use this time to be present and to remind myself to fill my own cup before I attempt to fill others’.
My goal is to provide information to help understand the ingredients that are in your skincare the way you understand the ingredient labels on your food. If you are an avid cook, you know that any wholesome homemade meal, made with both macro and micronutrients, is more nourishing than any packaged food that you can buy off the shelf. I don’t expect my food to give me six-pack abs and toned arms or turn to back the hands of time, but I want it to nourish and protect my body. I expect the same from my skincare.
All that to explain why Hyangii products have no personality! Why brown? Dark bottles protects the contents from light damage. Boring stock bottles reduces cost-I’d rather spend the money on the ingredients.
